Added link to pop-up dice roller

Looks like the other dice roller may not be coming back. I have been looking for alternatives.

Check out the link to the right. It will open a smaller window with a D20 dice roller. It can be opened from any screen but only one version of the popup window will open at a time.

Let me know what you think.

Render moved forward to attack the minotaur skeleton. Before he could close to melee, the monster struck the dwarf with a claw. The attack inflicted 8 damage. Once inside its reach he struck with his warhammer dealing 12 damage. The monster attacked with both claws. Both hit the dwarf dealing an additional 19 damage. To make matters worse, another skeleton moved forward and attacked Render. It too slashed with a claw. The monster scored a critical hit, inflicting another 10 damage.

Clint moved to the corner and let fly and arrow at the hobgoblin. The arrow hit for 7 damage. The rogue was too far away to strike a vital location easily. Henpeck stepped forward and slashed the skeleton that had advanced. The fighter’s bastard sword crushed the monster with a mighty blow that dealt 10 damage and killed it. Another skeleton moved forward to take the fallen’s place. It slashed at Henpeck but missed the fighter with its claw. Another skeleton moved forward but had nowhere to move that would allow it to engage an enemy.

Thurstan’s wolf moved forward and attacked the new skeleton. The jaws of the wolf clamped down for 2 damage and pulled the monster to the ground. Thurstan moved forward and cast a Bless spell. Simone moved closer to the fight but could not get close enough to help her master, Render. The last skeleton moved forward but it too could not engage the enemy.

Banjo moved as close to the fight as he could. Not able to see an enemy other than the minotaur skeleton or the tripped skeleton, the sorcerer targeted the Minotaur skeleton with a Magic Missile spell. The missiles dealt 8 damage to the monster.

The hobgoblin moved closer to the pool and the dragon statue. It cast a spell, Spiritual Weapon, which targeted Banjo. The magical weapon struck the sorcerer for 7 damage. Torvald moved to Banjo’s aid and lay on hands for 3 healing.

The doors to the east are all slightly ajar. These lead into vaults behind the statues.

A smashed set of double doors lie at the northernmost point of the room. They once concealed a ledge and shaft leading down. The ledge is covered in rubble, the remains of the large stone doors. A rope ladder is currently affixed to the ledge and dangles over the edge.

A thin wall cordons and oddly shaped inner chamber, inside which a statue of a gold dragon spits water into a clear pool. Near you, the skeleton of a massive horned humanoid stands. Beyond that and the statue are four humanoid skeletons. A hobgoblin dresses in a black breastplate stands near them. He bears the symbol of Urgathoa around his neck.

Looking for Posts

I still need posts from Dave, Matt H, Matt F and Daren for turn 63.

I will wait until tomorrow before I post results. I would like everyone to chime in but I will post without if need be.

Did the group ever decide on the division of treasure?

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 63

A wide hallway stretches north and south here. Each end of the passage is a blank wall, although the northern part of each end appears to be an opening.

To the west, the hall ends at a ladder of iron rungs leading down to a narrow hallway that runs north. Scenes of battle are engraved on the wall. The passage seems to continue to the east around a corner.

To the east, a ladder of iron rungs leads down to a wide hall occupied by four grim statues of men in black armor, each holding a shield in front of his legs and feet. In the far northeast corner of this landing is a statue of a minotaur holding a longspear, the haft resting on the ground and the tip affixed to the ceiling.. Vault doors behind each of the statues hang ajar. On the opposite wall, engravings depict a battle between humanoid armies. The passage seems to continue to the west around a corner.

Clint attempts to pick the lock using the new tools taken from the wererat. The lock proves too difficult for the rogue but he remembers that the rat also had a key. This proves to be what is needed and the door opens. Henpeck, the new fighter, opens the door to the room beyond and enters. Render and Simone follow.

New Marching Order Needed

I need a new single-file and double-file marching order now that we have a new mix of characters. Please include the animals in the orders.

Please post your turns by 10:00 PM

Please post your turns by 10:00 PM tonight.

Posted New Character Summary File

I posted a new character file on my web site, http://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page/pathfinder-play-by-blog.

It is called PBBCharactersNew.xls and is in the attachments section. I left the old file, PBBCharacters.xls as a reference.

I did my best to make sure things were correct. Please review for accuracy. You collectively need to decide how to divide the treasure. All of the items should be accounted for. I added a column for Carried by to the treasure tab. If you plan on stashing treasure somewhre rather than carry it, let me know where you plan to leave it. If you plan not to keep an item, please tell me so that I can remove it from the list.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 62

The group decided to rest in the southern crypt to recover and replenish. Jean and Blunderbuss decided to head back to town and seek adventure elsewhere. The barbarian had a premonition of something bad about to happen and the ranger deemed it wise to trust intuition. They bid farewell to the rest of the party and offered promises to send reinforcements once they returned to Kingsholm.

The group spent the night and recovered spells and hit points. Shortly before breaking camp, strangers arrived. They are encountered in the main hall. One was a male human fighter wearing banded mail and wielding a bastard sword. The other was a male dwarf accompanied by a female lion.

The scroll reads “We who rest still long to serve. If you seek the same, take our goods and be blessed. If greed moved this stone and not a true heart, may our curse find you ere we awake.”

Thurstan and Banjo examine the magical treasure and believe it to be the following:

Cloak of Resistance +1
Elixir of Vision (+10 perception checks for 1 hour)
Ephod of Authority (Effective cleric level is treated as one level higher when channeling positive energy. Part of a set of items called the Vestments of Divinity)
Bracers of Armor +1
Efficient Quiver
+1 Rapier

Please advise how you divide the treasure.

Please post today

Please place your posts today so that I can post tonight. I am specifically looking for input from Matt and Daren. Please weight in on what the group should do.

There is talk of resting in the crypt. If this is the case, please pick a location to do this. A copy of the map of explored areas can be found in the attachments section of http://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page/pathfinder-play-by-blog. It is named PBB_Map_Explored_To_Date. It is an Excel file.

I plan to work in Christian and Matt Falk with the next GM turn post. I still need a character from Matt Falk.

After this turn, Jean and Blunderbuss will be retired (unless Matt Falk does not provide a character).

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 61

Investigation reveals that the sarcophagus did not contain a body but did contain four items that radiate magic:

A vestment
A set of bracers
A quiver
A rapier

There is also a scroll written in Draconic.

Need player posts by noon tomorrow

I need player posts before noon tomorrow to post a turn before I leave. I need to know what you plan to do and how you will divide the treasure.

The new players should plan to start posting with the turn that I post on Monday.

Daren will be playing Torvald. Christian will be playing Keltor Ironwood, Druid/Barbarian. I am still looking for a character from Matt Falk. That should mean that Jean and Blunderbuss are making an exit. (If Matt does not get me a character, Blunderbuss can be played until he does).

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 60

A search of the wererat’s body reveals the following:

Masterwork studded leather
Masterwork rapier
Masterwork light crossbow
6 bolts
5 silver bolts
Magic cloak
Potion
Masterwork thieves’ tools
Key

A search of the room reveals that the door to the south and the statue both radiate moderate auras of magic. The door is locked and radiates abjuration magic. The statue radiates illusion magic and magical writing appears upon the pages of the open book. It reads:

Two as one can win the day,
The one with two shows the way,
Brave the blade to break the seal,
Twist the knife, it will reveal.

Banjo, Clint, Thurstan and his wolf could not reach the action and were forced to wait in hopes of getting a chance to attack.

Blunderbuss raged and power attacked with his great axe. The blow landed a critical hit dealing a devastating 46 points of damage through the monster’s damage reduction, killing it.

Jean and Torvald looked around for more danger but nothing appeared immediately.

Thanksgiving Posting Schedule

Due to the holiday, I will have to modify the posting schedule a bit.

Assuming that I get the required player responses, I will plan to post a turn tonight.

I can post another turn on Wednesday before I go out of town. This will likely happen around 12:00 PM and assumes that I get player responses.

I will be away and without a computer until some time on Saturday. We will be doing Christmas decorations on Sunday during the day. I will get caught up on e-mail and posts on Sunday afternoon/evening.

I will plan the next post for Monday, 11/30/09. This is when I plan to include Christian, Daren and Matt F. in the game. Christian made a character, Daren is playing Torvald and I am still waiting for a character and an acceptance to the blog invite from Matt F. I am not sure how the characters are going to be worked in yet but please be prepared to play. I also plan to update the web site and the character summary file based on the player changes.

Blunderbuss power attacks with his great axe but misses the nimble ratman. Jean moves to the open corner and attacks with a hand axe. The ranger missed his target.

The monster attacked Clint but missed the rogue with both its rapier and its bite.

Clint moved out of harm's way an allowed Torvald to step forward to attack the wererat. The paladin power attacked with his longsword scoring a critical hit. The damage was reduced by the toughness of the creature but still dealt a solid 16 points of damage.

Seeing that Clint was greatly injured, Thurstan took a 5-foot step and cast Cure Moderate Wounds, healing the rogue by 17.

Ask them and they will come

The call has been answered and we now have three new players. Please welcome Daren, Christian and Matt Falk to the game.

Daren plans to play Torvald. Christian has already sent me his character, Barbarian/Druid. Matt Falk has expressed an interest in a straight Fighter.

We will finish up the current encounter and I will work out the old characters and work in the new characters. I expect that will be just after Thanksgiving.

The monster's rapier and fangs strike the startled rouge for 9 and 9, dealing a total of 18 damage to the elf.

Now There Are Three

I have been informed that Randy will be resigning from the game. That leaves us with three active players.

Matt has volunteeered to play one of the orphans.

The other option is to recruit additional players. Some folks that come to mind are Christian, Jon, David, Daren, Steve, Matt Falk and Mark Pittman.

I will leave it for you guys to work out. Just let me know what you decide.

Randy Bows Out

Randy told me on the way to gaming last week that he couldnt keep up with posting and that I could take Torvald.

I dont mind taking Torvald but I wouldnt mind giving Blunderbuss up (back to Corey or maybe to Steve?) either.

Jean opens the door and descends two sets of stairs following the tracks.

Victim of Lingering Plague and Household Repairs

I have been sick for the better part of a week and I had a ton of things to do around the house this weekend.

Needless to say, I did not get to post. I will be posting the next turn tonight before I go to bed.

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Shall Dave & I finish this thing by ourselves?

Monday, November 2, 2009

Please post today - Need clarification

I would like to process a turn tonight. If you have not already posted please do so by 10:00 PM tonight.

I also need a group decision. I have conflicting direction. There is a door to the noth and one to the southwest. Jean is planning to open one and Blunderbuss the other. Is that really the plan?

No magic is detected by Thurstan or Banjo. Torvald does not detect an evil.

A search of the room does not reveal much. The statues appear as previously described. The do not appear to have been disturbed. The vault doors to the east behind the statues remain sealed.
The doors to the north and southwest are closed but do not appear to be locked or trapped.

It is clear to all that many humanoids have traveled through this room recently, tracking wet fungus from the previous room here. The tracks lead to the door to the north.

Jean is sure that someone has recently returned to the room and entered the door to the southwest.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 54

This area is a hall stretching from the southeast to the northwest. Statues along the eastern wall represent different figures, and each one is placed in front of a vault door. The nearest portrays a human wizard, holding her staff aloft. Second is a dwarf cleric brandishing a symbol of Torag. The third and fourth are twin elves, one an archer aiming a bow and the other a warrior wielding a rapier and dagger. Statues to the east and west of the northern stone door appear to be made of black onyx. Depicting human warriors, they hold halberds crossed over the door. A single stone door is set near the center of the western wall.

Thurstan Channels Postive Energy to heal the party to full.

Each member takes a healing potion except for Thurstan. Clint also takes the arrows.

Clint listens to the door and checks it for traps. The elf hears nothing and does not find the door to be trapped or locked. Clint quietly opened the door.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 53

A complete search of the room reveals that the varags both appear to have died from exposure and hypothermia. Each is wearing masterwork studded leather armor and is equipped with a masterwork scimitar, a shortbow, 6 arrows, a satchel of undercooked meat, a potion, and assorted jewelry worth 200 GP. The potions identify as Cure Light Wounds.

These items have been added to your treasure list but it needs to be decided who will carry the items. (This is particularly important for the 5 potions on your list.)

The file tracking the characters and the treasue can be found at http://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page/pathfinder-play-by-blog

The door to the north appears to be unlocked and untrapped. The door to the east is sealed from this side by a soft metal. There is noting of interest in the canal or about the remaining statues.

Wishing he were not out of spells, Banjo stepped forward and fired his longbow at the monster. The shot was true and dealt 7 damage to the water weird.

The water wierd continued to sufficate Clint and pulled the rogue into the water. The monster squeezed the rogue dealing 4 damage. It also lashed out at Thurstan with another pseudopod but missed the cleric.

Clint continued to struggle and wiggled free of the monster's grasp. The elf was able to swim to shore and climb to the steps on the other side of the bridge. Thurstan stepped to fill the spot vacated by Clint and attacked the monster with his trident. The attack hit and damaged the monster for 8 damage. Thurstan's wolf bit the monster for 3 more damage. Jean swung with both hand axes scoring a hit for 3 damage which killed the monster.

Torvald crossed the bridge and lay on hands to the elf for 6 healing. Blunderbuss howled in frustration as the danger was vanquished without his help.

Clint tried to break free of the monster’s grasp again but this time the elf failed. Thurstan attacked the monster with his trident striking a critical blow dealing 22 damage. His wolf nipped at the elemental but missed again. Jean swung both of his hand axes but only hit with the first causing 6 damage.

Clint proved slippery and was able to slide free of the monster’s grasp. Once free, the elf attacked with his longsword striking a blow for 6 damage. Thurstan stepped forward and attacked the monster with his trident dealing 9 damage. His wolf crossed the bridge and nipped at the elemental but missed. Jean stepped to fill the last melee position and swung his hand axe and causing 6 damage.

Torvald stepped forward but could not engage the creature. In his heart he was reminded of the divine Cyheraeth to whom he has pledged his honor and loyalty. Blunderbuss howled in frustration, leaped down from the landing and pressed forward waiting for an opportunity to attack.

Blunderbuss bashes at the door trying to break it loose. The barbarian is unsuccessful and the door remains closed. Clint decides to go around to the other side to see if he can loosen it from inside the room.

Thurstan, Jean, Banjo and Torvald decend the ladder to examine the bodies and the canal. Thurstan's wolf leaps from the landing to the floor below.

Thurstan examines the first varag body. The monter appears to have died from exposure and hypothermia. It is wearing masterwork studded leather armor and is equipped with a masterwork scimitar, a shortbow, 6 arrows, a satchel of undercooked meat, a potion, and assorted jewelry worth 200 GP.

Clint starts to cross the bridge over the canal. Before the rogue can move more than a few steps there is a disturbance in the water.

A graceful serpent of clear water rises from the canal, making a sound that resembles bubbling speach. It seems to say, "More intruders. Leave this place the way you came, or face the price of your folly, as have those before you."

Clint moves to the far end of the corridor and searches the doors. Neither appear to be locked or trapped but the one to the north is stuck and the elf cannot open it. The one to the south opens into a room.

A balcony on the north wall overlooks this wide room, which is lower and cooler than the previous areas you've explored, and a steep staircase leads from the balcony's west side into the chamber. Atop the stairway is a closed stone door. Swiftly flowing water runs in a canal that flows east to west through the area, and the moisture has made the room damp, the walls and floor slick with malodorous subterranean fungus. A narrow bridge crosses the canal at the foot of the stairs from the balcony. Flanking the canal on the north and south are rows of statues depicting shield bearing soldiers saluting with their drawn swords. On the south side of the canal, two of the statues are shattered. Nearby lay the bodies of two humanoids.

The balcony is 15 feet higher than the lower floor. There is a 3 foot tall wall running along the balcony, facing the interior of the room. From the landing through the south door, a ladder decends 15 feet to the lower section of the room. The floor and bridge are covered in patches of damp fungus. The corpses are recently dead varags.

The north door is still closed and stuck.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Player Discussion Post Turn 48

Use this thread to talk amongst yourselves to make decisions for your turn 48 actions.

Thurston casts Detect Magic and appraises the magic equipment. He determines that the items are:

+1 Studded Leather Armor
1 Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds
2 Potions of Cure Light Wounds

Who, if anyone, will equip these items?

Torvald and Banjo examine the statues. The paladin Detects Evil and the sorcerer casts Detect Magic. They have no identification, names or runes. They do not radiate evil or magic. The statues do not appear to move or have any hidden mechanisims. They represent a beautiful princess, a knight ready for battle, sword raised and shield readied, a wizard with a long beard and of a peasant woman.

Blunderbuss moves to cover Clint as the rogue examines the double doors. The elf is able to pick the lock and open the doors. A 15 foot wide hallway proceeds to the west about 30 feet, narrowing to 10 feet and ending in two doors.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 47

The other walls of the room depict scenes of a green dragon defeating a bronze dragon. There is also a knight defeating a black dragon. The remaining two statues are of a wizard with a long beard and of a peasant woman.

In the center of the room is a small camp. It consists of two fur pallets, a half full water barrel and a chest filled with a few pounds of cured meat.

A search of the bodies yields the following trasure: 3 potions, magic studded leather armor, 2 masterwork studded leather armor, 3 masterwork scimitars, a masterwork shortsword, a masterwork composite shortbow (+4 STR bonus), shortbow, 26 arrows and 57 GP.

The double doors to the west are made of stone and are locked.

What do you do next?

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 46

Banjo moved up behind Clint and shot his longbow at the varag but the arrow did not find its mark.

Thurstan Channeled Positive Energy. The burst healed Blunderbuss and Torvald for 8. Thurstan's wolf attacked the varag with its bite dealing 6 damage but failed to trip the goblinoid. Clint dropped his longbow and attacked the varag with his longsword. The attack found its target and thanks to the flanking with Jean, the rogue dealt 16 damage to the monster and killed it.

Torvald and Blunderbuss searched the room for more enemies but found no takers. Jean began searching the bodies looking for valuables and clues.

It has been six months since we started the game

It has been six months since we started the game and I am looking for some feedback.

In general, I believe that this has been a successful experiment so far. I will be posting the results for turn 46 and the turn post for 47 later tonight. That means that we are averaging about 8 turns per month. Our best was 14 turns and the worst was 5 turns. My best guess is that we are about 1/3 of the way through the adventure.

Some observations from the GM perspective is that non-combat turns tend to bog down the play. When there is a clear direction or limited choices, the players tend to respond better. When we have had a puzzzle or decisions of how to proceed that does not involve one or two options, player responses seem to get fuzzy or non-existent.

In the less clear, non-combat portions, would you like me to boil down your options? i.e. after the fight you loot the monsters and then you a) rest in this room for the night, b) head back to town to rest, c) open the door and proceed further into the crypt.

Collectively we appear to have lost focus and enthusiasim for the game from time to time. I have been guilty of that a few times as "real life" has caused me some delas in getting turns posted. I am sure that is the case for each of you. Rather than wait on players to post their turns, should we have a standard set of orders for each character for combat and non-combat that will be executed if the player does not post on time? I would treat this like the standard marching order that I received at the start of the game. I will plan on using it unless specifically ordered otherwise.

Please feel free to post your feelings using the poll. If you have any specific suggestions or comments, please add them to this thread.

Banjo cast Magic Missile at the zombie dealing 8 damage.

The zombie attacked Torvald again with its scimitar. The paladin took 9 damage from the monster. Thurstan and his wolf attacked the monster. The cleric struck the undead with his trident but the piercing weapon did not cause full damage. The monster only took 5 damage. The wolf bit the monster for 6 damage and killed it.

Clint attempted to Coup de Grace the sleeping varag. Taking careful aim with his longbow, the elf fired a shot into its chest dealing 24 damage. The monster miraculously awoke with a scream of pain.

Torvald moved to attack the other varag. The paladin struck at the monster with a Power Attack from his longsword but missed. Blunderbuss worked up a rage and also moved to attack the varag. The barbarian did not miss but instead landed a critical blow for 51 damage with his great axe, killing the monster.

The varag lying on the floor attacked Clint with her scimitar but missed the rogue with a desparate swing. Jean moved from the dead varag to attack the prone one attacking Clint. The ranger struck a blow with one of his hand axes dealing 9 damage.

The zombie attacked Torvald with its scimitar, striking the paladin for 7 damage. Thurstan and his wolf both attacked the undead but both missed the monster.

Clint moved next to the sleeping Varag 2 and let fly with his longbow at Varag 1, striking the monster for 8 damage.

Torvald and Blunderbuss both Power Attacked the zombie. The paladin missed and almost dropped his sword. The barbarian struck true with his great axe dealing 17 damage.

Varag 1 tumbled past Jean and Spring Attacked Blunderbuss with its scimitar. The monster struck a flanking blow to the barbarian for 14 damage and bounded around the wall.

Jean closed with the monster again but missed with his hand axe.

Still waiting on Matt and Randy

I need turn posts from Matt and Randy to post the current results.

Need turn posts if you want me to post the next turn tonight

So far I only have a turn post from Paul. I should be able to post a turn tonight if I hear back from everyone.

Please check over your characters

Please check over your converted characters again to ensure that all of yourskills, feats and other abilities work the way you expect or still enen exist.

An issue came up during the processing of this turn for Randy's character, Torvald. Apparently Overhand Chop no longer exists as a feat. I replaced it with Power Attack. Power Attack has changed dramatically. Randy may or may not want to take this feat.

I am willing to work with you if there is something about your character that you would like to change based on the rules conversions.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 43

Banjo casts a Magic Missile at the zombie striking with two missiles for 10 damage. The shuffles 5 feet ahead and swings a scimitar at Torvald but misses the paladin due to his new full plate armor. Thurstan moves in between Torvald and the zombie and attacks the creature with his trident. The blow lands but is not very effective dealing only 1 point of damage. Thurstan’s wolf moves to the other side of Torvald and tries to bite the zombie but misses.

Clint enters the room but backs up to the northeast before taking a shot at the zombie with his longbow. The elf’s shot misses. Having nowhere to move for an advantage, Torvald Power Attacks the zombie with his longsword. The paladin blow hits dealing 10 damage to the monster. Blunderbuss presses forward next to Thurstan’s Wolf and Power Attacks the zombie with his great axe. The blow misses its mark due to the studded leather armor the undead is wearing.

From bed roll behind the interior walls, living versions of the undead creature you have been fighting leap into the fray. One of the horned creatures is thickly muscled and bears two swords, one shorter than the other. The second creature is more slender and wields only one curved blade. The large one barks, “Varg yom!” (That’s Goblin for “Flank ‘em!”)

The first creature springs forward and attacks Blunderbuss with its scimitar. The monster strikes the barbarian for 8 damage and bounds away around the far interior wall. The second creature tries the same but misses with its scimitar. It moves back toward the northeast.

Unable to squeeze in to attack the zombie, Jean takes off after the first living monster, hoping to be able to attack it before it moves away again.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 43

A hairy, hunched humanoid that has a face like that of a feral hobgoblin with horns that curve away from its skull lurches around the corner of a nearby wall. It would easily stand 7 feet tall if it weren’t traveling in an apelike manner, using its arms for additional support. Despite its dreadful pallor and oozing wounds, it moves with amazing speed. It wears dark leather studded with black iron, and it raises a scimitar in one of its gnarled hands as it gurgles and charges.

Roll initiative.

Map Key:

Gray is the floor.
Blue stars are statues.
Small white rectangles (or close approximations) are doors.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 42

Banjo cast Detect Magic but did not sense anything new.

Clint searched the door but does not find any locks or traps.

Blunderbuss opened the door and Torvald rushed into the room beyond.

Ancient frescos decorate the walls of this room, which might be octagonal. It is difficult to be sure of this from your vantage point because walls partition the room. The art is not of the sort customary for a king's tomb. Each of the interior walls that you can see shows images of men and women of many races carousing in a tavern. The outer walls near you depicts a gold dragon defeating a red dragon. To the right and left are statues, one in the image of a beautiful princess and the other shaped like a knight ready for battle, sword raised and shield readied.

Soft snoring can be heard coming from the middle of the room. A shuffling movement can also be heard from behind the first interior wall.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 42

What do you do next?

The door to the northwest is closed and intact.

Does anyone choose to wear the full plate? I believe that Torvald is the only one who is proficient with heavy armor.

See Combat Map for current positions.

Map Key:

Gray is the floor.

Brown is the remains of the rope and wood bridge.
Black is the crevice.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 41

The party completes their search of the area and decides to go back down into the crypt. They gather the full plate and climb back down the ladder, 200 feet to the end of the shaft.

Having nothing further to explore in the room at the end of the shaft, the group heads back to the previous chamber to examine the other, unexplored door.

Been a Slacker ...

Sorry but I have been a slacker.

I could make excuses but it boils down to not enough hours in the day.

That said, I am back and committed to running this game. Please try to post in a timely manner and I will do the same.

I have posted results and a new turn. This should be a fast and easy one. I need to know what you want to do next. Back to the crypt? Back to town? Something that I have not thought of?

I have posted the updated character summary on my web site (http://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page/pathfinder-play-by-blog) representing the converted and leveled characters

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 41

What do you want to do now?

Two obvious options are to climb back dow the ladder and resume exploring the crypt or to return to Kingsholm. There may be others.

Please submit your turn instructions using the Player Action Response - Turn Post Template.

The blue star is a huge statue of a king holding out a sword pointed to the east. Squares count as blocking terrain.
The orange ring is the remains of a camp fire.
The gray ring is a shaft in the ground with a rope ladder hanging down.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 40

Thurstan cast a Cure Light Wounds on Blunderbuss while he recovered the effects of his rage. Torval also used a Lay on Hands to heal the barbarian to full.

Banjo Cast a Detect Magic and scanned the area. No magic was detected. Jean and Clint searched the area looking for clues.

The remains of the campsite included a fire pit, a cracked chest, a pile of meat and an open barrel. The chest contained a suit of medium masterwork full plate armor. Rainwater filled the barrel.

The statue is very large, impressive and made of stone. There are no identifying marks or symbols to identify the subject.

The earth pile is fresh and appears to be the result of the recent digging of the shaft with the ladder leading down into the crypt.

Current business

I have received updated characters from Dave (Banjo and Blunderbuss) and Paul (Jean). I still need characters from Bruce, Matt and Randy. Bruce and I have spoken so I know that he is working on his.

I have turn posts for Turn 40 from Dave (Banjo and Blunderbuss) and Bruce (Thurstan).

Steve has expressed an interest in playing to fill Corey's spot. He may want to play Blunderbuss or he has the option of making his own character. I need him to chime in with what he wants to do. He also metioned something about a gmail address rather than the one that I have been using as it can be accessed from his phone.

Randy, are you going to be posting your turns or do we need to give your spot away too? You are still welcome to play but I need you to play and not have to chase after you. It does not matter to me either way but I would like to get it settled.

I still plan to post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There will always be exceptions but that is the planned schedule.

While we are at it, you can also level to 3rd.

Please send me copies of your leveled characters.

Assuming that I get characters, I expect that I will post again on Monday.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 39

Banjo cast an Acid Splash at the Runehound, hitting for 2 damage. Blunderbuss swang his greataxe, striking the monster for 16 damage through the creature's damage reduction.

The runehound 5-foot stepped back away from the barbarian and spit a stream of acid at Blunderbuss. The attack struck the barbarian for only 10 damage as he twisted to avoid the full brunt of the attack.

Clint fired his longbow striking a critical hit for 11 damage past the monster's damage reduction. Thurstan's wolf moved to bite the monster. Its jaws clampped down but did not get past the damage reduction. Jean missed with both hand axes as the monster proved impossible to flank.

Torvald set upon the creature with a power attack, over hand chop, smite evil strike with his longsword. The paladin landed a critical blow killing the monster.

Torvald channeled positive energy to heal Blunderbuss for 4.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 38

Banjo moved forward and shot his longbow at the monster. The attack hit for 3 damage as it did not appear to have full effect. Blunderbuss move to engaged the monster but was attacked first by the Runehound as he got within reach of its snake-like neck. Luckily the barbarian was missed by the attack. Blunderbuss swag in retaliation, hitting the monster for 14 damage.

The Runehound attacked Blunderbuss again. This time the monster successfully bit the barbarian for 12 damage. All watched in horror as the monster’s wounds began to heal before their eyes. The creature’s fast healing cured 3 damage.

Clint fired his longbow, hitting the monster for 4 damage. Thurstan’s wolf moved forward to attack but it was also targeted by the snake-like maw as it tried to get in position to attack. Again the monster missed. The wolf hit its target but was not able to get through the monster’s defenses to do any damage. Jean chanced getting close to the monster, moving into a flanking position for Blunderbuss. The monster did not react. The ranger tried to attack with his hand axe but missed. Torvald moved forward to set up an attack. Thurstan moved forward and Channeled Positive energy to heal Blunderbuss and Clint 5 damage.

Upcoming Post Schedule

If I get enough posts by then, I will post again tomorrow 8/7 (or sometime over the weekend) and again on Monday, 8/10. After that, I will be at Gen Con.

The next scheduled post after I return will be on Wednesday 8/19.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 38

You emerge from a hole that is surrounded by earth and rock. The ladder you’re climbing is fastened to a post just a few feet beyond the opening, near an immense plinth of stone. Above you looms a weathered statue. Overgrown with creeper vines, it depicts a crowned and bearded man who is regally dressed and points his drawn sword to the east. Some trees nearby are taller than the statue, which has no inscription that you can see.

The remains of a campsite are visible to the north. As the group moves to examine the area, a hairless, hound like creature races from the undergrowth to the north, its pale skin covered in runic patterns glistening. Sprouting from the center of the creature’s back is a serpentine neck supporting an eyeless head that is mostly a toothy maw too big for the creature’s body. Its squealing turns to a gurgle as it begins to fill its maw with green bile.

Roll initiative.

See Combat Map for current positions.

More input please ...

I will post the next turn tomorrow. (I potentially need to create a new map and with gaming tonight, I do not believe that I will have time before then.)

I would like to speed things up a bit. Can you please provide more information?

Is anyone but Clint climbing the ladder? If more are climbing, please post a single-file climbing order.

What will Clint plan to do? He got over 60 feet up before anything happened last time. Will he climb so far, scout and climb back down to report? Climb to the top of the ladder? Drop something as a signal rather than climbing back down?

What does the rest of the group do while Clint is climbing? Wait for him to return? Wait so long and then start climbing after? Make tea?

Monday, August 3, 2009

Still waiting on Turn posts

I have heard from Bruce. He suggests going up the ladder.

What about the rest of you? Please post your turns.

We will convert to the new Pathfinder RPG rule when you level

We will convert to the new Pathfinder RPG rules when you level. You are getting close but it will definitely happen after Gen Con. I plan to convert to the new rules completely but there may be some exceptions. Until I have reviewed them, I cannot be sure. I will likely keep hit points the same.

Besides changes based on the rules, I will also allow folks to respec based on the play-by-blog experience. If there is something that you would like to change that will enhance your enjoyment of the adventure, please ask me about it. I was thinking that things like spells, skills and feats may want to be changed. They are also introducing traits which are like half-feats.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 37

Clint and Blunderbuss snuff out the life of the choker with weapons, kicks and insults.

Thurstan cast two Cure Light Wounds spells on Clint, healing the rogue for a total of 18.

I will wait for Matt to return before I post the next turn

All,

I will wait for Matt to return from his vacation before I post the next turn. I think that he is due back sometime next week.

The upshot of what has been posted so far for this turn is that you plan to kill the choker and heal Clint. As we are currently out of combat, are there any other actions that you would like to perform? i.e. explore the rope ladder again, check out the northwest door, heal Clint some more, etc. Situation depending, posts do not always need to be single actions.

Randy,

Are you still playing? I need you to post your turns.

Paul,

Are you interested in playing again? Are you alive? Do you ever answer e-mail?

Corey,

You have never played. I am going to remove you from the distribution. Hope things are going well.

The rest of you,

What do you want to do with the other characters? Do you want to keep playing them? Offer them up to other potential players? Let me know what you think.

Banjo rushed to the shaft and cast a Sleep spell, hoping to target above Clint and catch the monster in the area effect without catching the rogue. The spell went off and the Choker failed its Will save and fell from its perch. Clint tumbled after it but Blunderbuss was there to catch the elf. The choker was not as lucky as it hit the floor and took 27 damage. The monster groaned but did not move from its landing spot.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 35

As Blunderbuss draws closer, he sees an alarming sight. From the shadows, a spindly creature snarls through its oversized sharp teeth. It resembles a hairless, carnivorous chimp that has tentaclelike limbs, each ending in spiny, handlike appendages. Both of which are wrapped around Clint’s neck.

The combat map does not apply to this fight. The combat is taking place in a 5-foot shaft. The order is currently:

Monster
Clint
Blunderbuss

Thurstan cast Detect Poison and examined the pool. No poison was detected and the water was only about a foot deep. Banjo continued to concentrate on his Detect Magic spell. Still no magic was detected.

While the rest of the party examined the room, Clint climbed up the rope ladder. He climbed up over 60 feet before he was surprised by a pair of tentacles from the darkness. The two appendages struck the rogue for a total of 16 damage and wrapped around Clint’s neck. The tentacles constricted for another 5 damage as the rogue struggled silently to break free.

Just after the rogue had moved past the range of his darkvision, Blunderbuss noticed that the ladder had gone loose and suspected something had gone wrong. With a shout, the barbarian started to climb the ladder to investigate.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 34

Shattered stone and fresh dirt cover the slick floor of this devastated chamber. Judging by the remnants of masonry and floor tiles, the area was once part of the tomb complex. A rope ladder hangs near the broken door, leading up into the darkness. Just beyond it to the east, the slippery floor gives way to a shallow pool.

Banjo still does not detect any new magic.

What do you do?

Blunderbuss suggested heading to the door to the northwest to the rogue. Clint promptly proceeded to the door to the south. Banjo cast Detect Magic but did not detect any new sources of magic.

Clint examined the remains of the south door again. Finding nothing apparently dangerous, the rogue moved it aside and entered the room beyond.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 32

Thurstan threw his rope across the crevice to Clint. The rogue tied the line to the post on his side and tested its strength. Thurstan did the same. Starting with the cleric, the party climbed hand over hand to the other side. Thurstan configured a harness to haul his wolf across as well. Torvald almost slipped but managed to make it to the other side.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 32

Clint looks around cautiously. Smooth stone littered with small bits of broken rock and dirt make up the floor of the far chamber. The door to the northwest is shut and intact but remnants of the south door are propped up against a ruined frame and a badly cracked wall.

Characters should be able to climb the walls of the crevice. The walls are rough with many hand and foot holds but it appears to be slippery. The posts on either end of the bridge appear to be sturdy.

What do you do?

See Combat Map for current positions.

Please submit your turn instructions using the Player Action Response - Turn Post Template.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 31

Clint crossed the bridge with nimble elf grace. It seemed sturdy at first but before reaching the other side, the rouge noticed that the ropes had begun to fray and pull apart at the destination end. Not sure that he could make it back to the starting side, Clint maked an awkward acrobatic leap but managed to land safely on the far end as the bridge gave way and falls into the crevice with a splash.

Glad that they waited for the rogue, the rest of the party remained safe and dry on the starting side.

Holiday weekend

I will be out of town for the holiday. I hope that everyone has a safe and fun time.

Please post your actions before 10:00 PM on Monday so that I can post the next turn.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 31

Beyond the door, a narrow stone landing connects to a bridge built of rope and wood, apparently placed to cross a natural crevice here. The crevice is tight where it connects to this passage, and it isn't much wider below you, though you can tell it contains some water. Gray with age, the bridge still seems sturdy. At its far end perhaps 30 feet away, the bridge connects to another landing and a wider chamber.

What do you do?

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 30

Torvald and Blunderbuss receive healing from Hergon. The night passes uneventfully at the Coronet and Cabbage and the party heads out at first light. Blunderbuss heals 1 point of Dex. Banjo casts Mage Armor on himself.

Returning to the Mausoleum, they find that the secret door in the beholder room is restored and closed once more. Moving and replacing the tiles again causes the beam to shoot from the ceiling to make the door disappear.

Navigating the staircase returns the group to the last room explored. Clint checks the room and door once more to be sure that there are no dangers or hidden things. Finding none, the rogue removes the spike from the exiting door and steps aside allowing Torvald to open it.

I am back in town

I am back in town and plan to post tomorrow.

Unless I hear otherwise, I will assume that the party visits the cleric to get some healing, spends the night at the inn and heads back into the crypt first thing in the morning. I expect the group to go back to where they left off and to open the door exiting the room.

Please post your responses for turn 30 under the GM Turn Post. So far I have only heard from Bruce.

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I will post when I get back

I will post on Wednesday after I get back. That will leave me Tuesday and Wednesday during the day to respond to questions or other requested transactions.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 30

Night falls shortly before the party returns to Kingsholm.

The group can seek lodging at the Coronet Cabbage Inn. Ian Turbrand will put the party up for the night for free.

Hergon Hilltopple can be called for assistance with healing. The halfling cleric of Pharasma can only supply healing through Channel Energy and Cure Light Wounds. He is not high enough level to cast 2nd level spells for something like Lesser Restoration.

If you wish to purchase something, the party can visit Gran Stoutbrace at the Kingsholm General Store. Items up to 500 GP can be purchased.

Resting the night will allow the characters to replenish spells and abilities. Wounded characters will regain 2 HP and 1 stat point.

Is there anything that you would like to do in town before returning to the Mausoleum?

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 29

Thurstan channels energy for 5 and heals Torvald and Blunderbuss. The Paladin regains consciousness and Lays on Hands for 15.

Clint checks the room for secret stuff and traps. The rouge spikes the exit door closed.

Consensus is that the group should return to Kingsholm and rest the night before continuing the investigation.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

If you respond, I will be able to get another turn in before I leave

I posted early. I had enough responses to complete the turn. If I can get responses and an agreed upon course of action by Thursday night, I will post another turn before I go out of town.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 29

There is one door exiting the room. It does not appear to be trapped or locked.

A search of the area does not turn up anything secret or hidden. There is apparently no treasure.
The monsters lay dead. Your paladin is near death and your cleric is out of spells and only has one Channel Energy attempt left.

What do you want to do next?

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 28

Blunderbuss raged and Power Attacked the zombie with his greataxe for a mighty 28 damage. Banjo cast another Acid Splash for 3 damage. Thurstan’s wolf bit the undead for 3 damage. Thurstan stabbed the zombie with his trident as it began to topple, insuring that it was down for good.

Clint looked around to see if there were any additional dangers. Nothing was immediately apparent. Jean carved up the monster with his hand axes. To make sure that was truly destroyed, the ranger set fire to the remains. Torvald lay still, breathing in a shallow manner. The paladin was gravely wounded but stable.

Blunderbuss moved to the zombie and attacked with is Greataxe. The barbarian scored a hit for 13 damage. Banjo pulled Torvald back away from the combat. Thurstan's wolf tried to bite the zombie but failed. Thurstan took a 5-foot step forward and attacked the zombie with his trident. The cleric managed 5 damage past the monster's damage reduction. Clint hit again with his longsword for 8 damage. Jean hit with one hand axe for 7 damage.

The zombie lashed out at Blunderbuss but missed the barbarian with its mighty fist.

Banjo moved to the lower stairs to attack the Ogre Zombie. The sorcerer cast another Acid Splash and hit the monster for 2 damage. Thurstan's Wolf attempted to attack the Wolf Skeleton but missed. The skeleton snapped at the barbarian hitting for 3 damage.

Thurstan channeled the power of his god, dealing 3 damage to the Wolf Skeleton, killing it, and 1 point to the Ogre Zombie. The burst of positive energy healled Torvald and Blunderbuss 3 damage.

Clint drew his longsword and moved next to Torvald to attack the zombie. The rogue hit with a critical strike dealing 13 damage. Jean attacked with both of his had axes missing with one and hitting with the other for 3 damage. Torvald attacked with his longsword executing a Power Attack and Overhand Chop. The strike landed dealing 21 damage. The zombie struck back at the paladin pounding Torvald for another 14 damage, knocking the paladin unconscious with an audible crunch.

The first skeleton bit Blunderbuss for 7 damage. The barbarian returned the favor, shattering the monster with a might blow from his great axe, dealing 14 damage. Banjo moved down the stairs and cast Acid Splash at the remaining skeleton but missed. Thurstan's wolf bit the undead wolf dealing 6 damage but failed to trip the monster. The skeleton bit back but missed his living opponent.

Thurstan moved behind Torvald and cast a Cure Light Wounds to heal the paladin 7. Clint moved to the stairs to the lower room and fired upon the zombie with his longbow. The arrow hit the monster but bounced off of its thick hide. Jean moved to melee with the zombie but missed with his handaxe. Torwald worked up a swing with his longsword, attempting to Power Attack, Overhand Chop and Holy Smite all in one blow. Sadly, Torvald fanned on his attack.

The zombie, however, did not. The undead brute clubbed the paladin for 17 additional damage. Had Thurstan not healed him, he would likely have fallen.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 24

The first Wolf Skeleton attacked Torvald with its bite. The monster missed and backed up 5 feet. Blunderbuss rushed back down the stairs to attack the monster with a mighty power attack from his great axe. The barbarian missed with his mighty swing. Banjo tried his Acid Splah again. This time hitting for 2 damage. Thurstan's Wolf ran down the stairs to attack the first skeleton but missed with its bite. The second wolf skeleton attacked the live wolf back. It too missed.

Thurstan moved down the stairs past the skeletons and onto the stairs leading down to a larger room. The cleric spotted a hulking Ogre zombie standing infront of a door. He called out what he had found.

Clint moved down the stairs in front of Banjo. The rogue let loose with his longbow, striking the first wolf skeleton with an arrow for 3 damage. Jean moved past Thurstan to the bottom of the stairs, stopping short of the zombie's reach. Torvald bravely passed the ranger to close with the monster. The zombie smashed the paladin with its fist for 16 damage.

I only received half of the turn posts. I need the rest to post the results and the next turn.

Still trying to get back on track

Things conspired against me last week. I was going to post on Monday night but them I got called by work for a several hour long outage call starting at 11:00 PM. I did most of the prep work and determined that I still needed Randy's post to proceed. I sent an e-mail, reminding him and waited for his post but it did not arrive until Friday night.

My wife had surgery on Friday. morning We had to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM. That meant getting up and moving at 4:30 AM. After her surgery, which went very well, we had to see if they were going to keep her over night. It turned out that they released her and we got home around 7:00 PM. There were no complications and Sarah is on the mend. We watched the Wings debacle and went to bed. I then had a 3:00 AM conference call.

Long story short, it was a long week and I neglected my GM duties.

If I can get posts from everyone by 10:00 PM tomorrow night, I will post a new turn tomorrow night.

One of the wolf skeletons steps forward and attemts to bite Torvald. The undead monster misses the paladin. Blunderbuss shouts his frustration on not being able to see or move to the sounds of combat. The barbarian paces back to the opening 0f the shaft to allow Banjo a shot with a spell. The sorcerer misses his target with an Acid Splash. Clint, Thurstan and his wolf wait for the clog to clear on the stairs to be able to to do something. The second wolf holds, waiting to pounce when opportunity strikes. Jean does the same. Torvald attacks the skeleton with his long sword, The paladin strikes a heavy blow, power attacking with an overhand chop. The monster shrugs off some of the blow but still takes 14 damage.

Slow to get back on track

I am still looking for character turn posts for turn 23. I need to have posts from Matt, Dave, Dave as Corey and Randy. If I get them by 10:00 PM tomorrow, I can post results and turn 24 by 12:00 AM.

Are Paul and Corey still interested in playing? If not, I would like to determine if we still want to play their characters.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 23

The ladder leads to a wide landing, maybe 10 feet wide. Nearby, a narrow and shallow staircase descends to another landing that is narrower than the one you're on. It looks like the stairs might continue beyond that.

As you reach the bottom of the second staicase, the narrow passage opens into a wide landing. Two pile of bones lie near an opening to the west, where another stairway desends. As you watch, the bones shift and stir. You hear what sounds like a wolf howl, but the call seems as if it comes from far away. Two doglike skeletons rise and face you.

Roll initiative.

Back on Track

I think that we can now get back on track. If I have turn posts by 10:00 PM Friday night, I will post the next turn around 12:00 AM.

Lesson learned. Puzzles do not traslate well to this media.

Back to the regularly scheduled game ...

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 22

The party moves the tiles until a favorable result is achieved.

Once the tiles are in place, in the proper order, a green ray shoots from the ceiling causing the tile of a disappearing man struck by a ray to vanish.

The correct order was:

1 A bent-over man
2 A sprawled man
4 A rigid man
5 A running man
6 A levitating man
3 Men shaking hands
7 A disappearing man struck by a ray
8 A sleeping man
9 A man with arms raised
10 A bleeding man

Under where the tile once was, an opening to a shaft is discovered. The shaft contains a ladder leading down. The party decides to investigate further.

I would like to get us back on schedule

I would like to get us back on schedule and post a turn tomorrow night.

I need everyone to read the information in the last GM Turn Post and provide their input.

It seems that puzzles do not work very well in this medium but I also think that we have not had a lot of collaboration to try to figure it out.

If you do what I ask in the post, I expect that we can move along with the adventure.

Torvald and Blunderbuss grow impatient and pry up the tiles with the images of men shaking hands and the rigid man. Clint is able to see that there is nothing under the tiles but they look as if they were purposefully constructed to be picked up and moved. The backs of the tiles are blank. The rogue reminds the strongmen to be careful with the tiles which they currently have suspended over their head.

Reciting the poem out loud, Banjo starts to eye the chamber to the north.

Clint waits for the effects of the Slow to wear off before he resumes searching. He has to wait almost two minutes before he is feeling right again. The rogue moves to the north-most tile and resumes his investigation.

The tiles still match the images carved upon the door. The tile to the northwest is the engraved image of men shaking hands. This tile appears to be loose and could be removed from its setting. The tile to the north is the engraved image of a rigid man. This tile also appears to be loose and could be removed from its setting. Clint does not detect any traps.

Torvald move up and around to the top of the eye and examines the room using his Detect Evil ability. The paladin does not detect any evil auras. Thurstan and his wolf move to the left, flanking the archway to the chamber beyond. Jean moves to the right toward the archway to the chamber to the left.

Banjo moves next to Clint and comments "Pfft. I left home so I wouldn’t have to deal with this kind of crap. According to the legend on the beholder door, nothing good happens no matter what we do! Let's search the other floor tiles." Clint silently considers the sorcerer’s words and moves to the left chamber and examines the images upon the floor. Blunderbuss follows him.

The tiles all match the images carved upon the door. The tile to the immediate south is an engraved image of a bent-over man. This tile appears to be firmly fixed to the floor. The tile to the west is the engraved image of a sprawled man. This tile also appears to be firmly fixed to the floor. The one to the northwest is the engraved image of men shaking hands. This tile appears to be loose and could be removed from its setting. The rogue detects no traps on any of the three but he is still suspicious of the tiles. Gingerly he steps upon the tile with the bent-over man. This triggers a spell effect and Clint is affected by a Slow spell.

Still waiting for a turn 18 post from Matt

I am still waiting on a turn post from Matt for turn 18.

As you are investigating the room, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. This does not necessarily need to be completed in combat rounds but it does matter what you do and where you go. Just saying search the room will not cut it.

Clint searches the doorway for traps. The rouge does not find anything out of order and proceeds cautiously to the large eye in the center of the room. He checks the area around the eye for traps and again finds nothing of concern.

He determines from his examinations that the room is some sort of puzzle modeled after a beholder and its eyes. The center room represents its body and central eye while the outer chambers represent the eye stalks. He remembers that the central eye is supposed to Dispel Magic but does not remember what any of the rest are supposed to do. He waves the rest of the group into the room.

Banjo casts Detect Magic and scans the room. While he detects magic auras, it is not very helpful as the whole room radiates magic of various schools.

Thurstan and Banjo discuss the symbols and believe that they match the eye stalks of a beholder. They believe that they have figured out nine of the ten. Only the sprawled man escapes their recall.

A bent-over man = Slow
A sprawled man = ???
A rigid man = Flesh to Stone
A running man = Fear
A levitating man = Telekinesis
Men shaking hands = Charm Person
A disappearing man struck by a ray = Disintegrate
A sleeping man = Sleep
A man with arms raised = Charm Monster
A bleeding man = Inflict Moderate Wounds.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 17

Magical white light suddenly illuminates a wide room that's divided into four distinct areas. Each area is roughly octagonal and roughly the same size. The ceiling in each of these areas is valuted and about 20 feet high at the apex. A stylized symobol of an eye adorns the center of the tiled floor in the center section of the room.

Upon further examination of the room from the doorway additional tiled images are visible upon the floor, apparently matching the images from the door.

Clint searches the Sarcophagi check to see if any unwanted attention might lurk inside. The lids are firmly in place and show no signs of tampering. It would take considerable strength and coordination to open the crypts. Banjo casts a Detect Magic but does not sense anything. Thurstan and his wolf sniff around but do not discover anything new. The cleric collects some pieces of the defeated clockwork constructs. Blunderbuss taps his foot. Torvald looks confused.

Finding nothing of interest in the tomb, Clint moves back to the Beholder door and attempts to open the magically held door. After a bit of tinkering, the rouge is able to defeat the Arcane Lock and open the door.

WTF ... Only one player has posted for turn 16

What is going on guys? Only Bruce has posted for this turn and he has also been posting for Paul since he is MIA.

Do you guys still want to do this? Do I need to lower my expectations?

I am ready to post but it does not look like you are ready to play. I've put in several hours into this trying to make this fun and enjoyable for everyone. I am only asking for about 10 minutes three times a week. It feels like I need to pull teeth to make it happen.

I have not really heard of any complaints but lack of interest seems to be showing. If you do not want to play, I would rather know now. I can either replace you with another player or I can stop spending my time on this and chalk the experiment up as a failure.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 16

The clockwork creatures have been vanquished. The room contains two plain sarcophagi and a statue of a man holding a book. This room, unlike the rest of the tomb shows no signs of dust or refuse. It does not appear as if the grave robbers had disturbed this chamber.

Clint believes that he can attempt to open the beholder door using his mechanical persuasion skills. If he cannot, Blunderbuss is willing to try his Diplomacy skill.

The first of the clockwork creatures repairs 6 of the damage that had been dealt to it. Blunderbuss swings his greataxe at the remaining construct to his right. The blow lands for 17 and destroys it. The remaining construct tries to sting Thurstan’s Wolf but misses. Thurstan’s wolf attacks the construct with its bite, hitting for 6 damage. Jean attacks the repairing construct with both hand axes. One attack hit but the other missed. It was still enough to destroy the construct. Clint steps forward and fires his longbow at the construct fighting the wolf. He makes an incredible shot striking the tiny creature between the wings and reducing it to mere cogs and springs. Torvald looks around the room for more danger but there is nothing to attack. Banjo next to Thurstan’s Wolf and casts Mage Armor on the beast. Thurstan channels energy and heals Banjo and Blunderbuss to full.

Combat is concluded.

New dice roller added

The dice roller that we were using was found to have a problem and had to be removed. I have added another one. It has a few more functions but does not fit on the page as well. I have posted it under the combat map at the top of the page.

I will post results and new turn later today

I will post the results of Turn 15 and the new Turn 16 later today. My day has been busy and it might not be until later this afternoon.

Please post your responses so that I can post again tomorrow night to get back on track.

Thanks.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 14

The first of the clockwork creatures darts forward and tries to sting Clint. The construct misses and retreats back to where it started. Blunderbuss rushes into the room and swings his greataxe at the construct to his right. The blow lands for 23 and destroys it. Thurstan climbs the stairs from the beholder door and casts a Bless spell. The second construct springs forward and stings Blunderbuss for 1 damage. The barbarian starts to feel the effects of its poison as his reactions slow. The third construct also stings Blunderbuss for 1 damage. This time the barbarian shakes off the poison. Thurstan’s wolf rushes into the room and attacks the construct to its left with its bite. The animal misses. Jean moves into the room to set up for an attack next round. Clint fires his longbow at the far construct, hitting for 9 damage. The rogue backs up a step. Torvald moves into the room to set up for an attack next round. Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 14

Three steps lead down into what must be a private vault. A low whirring comes from somewhere within, but it fades quickly. To the east stands the statue of a man in robes, his eyes downcast. His marble hands hold an open stone book. Two plain sarcophagi are also here, their lids sealed. The stone here gleams as if it was polished yesterday, and no sign of vermin or dust is anywhere. Tiny niches are built into the masonry in a sparse but orderly pattern.

Suddenly, four tiny creatures flit into the air. They look and sound like wasps, but each has a humanlike metal face and two minuscule limbs.

Roll initiative.

See the combat map for current positions.
