Just in case my description was not clear, here is what the room looks like in a cross section.

Clint continued his descent toward the second pillar fearful of the monster that had attacked him. Hand over hand, the rogue moved to within 15 feet of the top of the next pillar. Dargoth reloaded his heavy crossbow. Thurstan’s wolf paced looking for an opportunity to attack but the monster still remained out of reach.

Thurstan zapped the creature with a lightning arch, dealing 7 damage and killed the monster.

Banjo was ready to return fire with a Magic Missile spell but it proved not to be required.

The Lurking Strangler shot an eye ray at Banjo. The beam struck its mark but the Sorcerer was able to shake off the effects of Sleep by making his Will Save. Banjo returned fire by casting a Magic Missile spell. He dealt 10 damage to the monster.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 70

Clint carefully searches the pillar that you are standing upon and examines the knotted rope and rope ladder. He does not find anything unusual or sinister. The rope and ladder both appear to be recent additions to this area. They have not been in place more than a few days.

“Wait here while I check ahead”, said Clint as he began the climb down to the next pillar top. Once the rogue was about half-way down a monster appeared out of the darkness.

A 3-foot long strand of sinew connects two grotesque eyeballs and the whole mass twists and flies through the air toward you.

The monster fired a ray at Clint while he was climbing the rope to the second pillar. The ray hit the rogue forcing a Will Save. Clint failed (6+2=8) and became frightened. The rogue will attempt to get as far away from the monster as possible.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 70

Once good-byes are said, the remaining party decides to climb down the ladder.

After a long climb into this apparently natural chamber, you reach a wide ledge. A knotted rope is affixed to the ledge’s north edge by a large iron spike. The faint sound of running water reaches you from below.

A knotted rope descends into the darkness.

Starting positions for Turn 70 are displayed on the Combat Map.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 69

Thurstan channeled positive energy 3 times to heal the party. His efforts healed everyone in the party 25 points. Render regained consciousness but was still very wounded. Thurstan cast a Cure Light Wounds to heal the Barbarian/Druid another 10 points. Torvald used his Lay on Hands ability on Dargoth, healing him to full.

Banjo identified the treasure revealing it to be a Potion of Levitation and a +1 Flail. The sorcerer also examined the statue and pool with the assistance of Clint. The rogue prodded and poked at the water without revealing any adverse effects. Banjo deduces that drinking the water is beneficial and restorative. Once per day, drinking from the pool allows a good character to recover hit points, spells and daily abilities as if they had a full night’s rest. Neutral characters only regain hit points. Banjo and Thurstan drink and reap the benefits. They were able to regain all of their spells and daily abilities.

Dargoth examined the rope ladder descending into the darkness below. Pulling up the ladder and experimenting revealed that the ladder dropped 60 feet below.

Render and Simone decide to take their leave of the party. Torvald offers to escort them out of the crypt and back to Kingsholm.

Bookkeeping

I updated the character sheet file. It can be found in the attachments section of page http://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page/pathfinder-play-by-blog. The current version is named PBBCharacters0310.xls.

Two items of party treasure, a Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds and a Potion of Cure Light Wounds need to be redistributed. The +1 Flail and the Potion of Levitation need to be assigned.

I only showed Thurstan as having 3 "blats" remaining. That was enough to heal the remaining party to full except for Dargoth. He was still down 2 points. Torvald cures that with a Lay on Hands before he goes. That taps the cleric out of "blats" for the day. He has also used 2 of his 1st level spells. That leaves him one and his domain spell. He still has a full complement of 2nd level spells. Thurstan also still has a feat slot open. I could not remember if Bruce was saving it for something.

Banjo has used 6 of his 1st level spells. That leaves him with one and one he can recast through the use of his ring.

Posts are due tonight

Turn posts are due tonight. Bruce and Dave have already posted and I have given some feedback. Please try to get them in by 10:00.

I also need to know what the party plans are. I believe that there are currently 4 players and 4 characters.

I expect that Render and Simone will leave and head back to the safety of the surface world.

Torvald is a question. If Daren wants to play still he can but I need him to post. If not, someone else can play Torvald or he can leave with Render.

If folks are interested in playing more than one character, I will entertain the idea. I would like to keep the number of PCs down to 6.

That said, I am ok with just 4 PCs. You currently have a fighter, a rogue, a cleric and a sorcerer. That covers the food groups. Talk amongst yourselves and let me know what you decide.

Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 69

A search of the cleric’s body reveals the following:

  • A potion
  • A magic flail
  • Masterwork breastplate
  • Masterwork heavy steel shield
  • A paper draft good for 500 GP from the temple of Urgathoa signed by someone named Xeron on the authority of an organization or person called “Vanguard”

A search of the rest of the room reveals the following:

  • A statue of a gold dragon spits water into a clear pool. The pool is about 1 foot deep. The statue and pool radiate magic.
  • A smashed set of double doors lie at the northernmost point of the room. They once concealed a ledge and shaft leading down. The ledge is covered in rubble, the remains of the large stone doors. A rope ladder is currently affixed to the ledge and dangles over the edge.
  • The vaults to the east all have doors slightly ajar and are all empty.

What do you do next?

Barrow of the Forgotten King - Turn Results 68

Render lay on the floor dying. Clint swung his longsword at the hobgoblin but missed. Dargoth also swung his bastard sword but missed the evil cleric.

Thurstan’s wolf moved into bite the enemy but it too missed. Thurstan channeled positive energy and healed the party for 8. Simone moved to the hobgoblin but missed with her bite.

The hobgoblin cleric channeled negative energy causing 7 damage to all. The spiritual weapon attacked Torvald but missed the paladin.

Banjo cast a Magic Missile at the Hobgoblin causing 9 damage. Torvald continued his Smite Evil and Power Attack and attacked the cleric with his longsword. The blow landed dealing 18 damage, killing the hobgoblin.

I would like to continue the game

Things have been fairly crazy at work and I have not had a lot of free time at home. All of that plus an apparent lack of player interest combined to grind things to a halt.

I would like to continue the game from where we left off. I plan to post turn results and the next turn on Monday.

Christian is out. Daren has not posted much at all and I am considering him out. I am willing to continue with four players (Bruce, Dave, Matt H and Matt F). You can play a character each or if you want to play multiple characters (like Dave and Bruce have been) I can work with that too.

Before anyone asks, you are still a few encounteres away from leveling up. I would guess that this will happen by the end of April if we can stay on track.

As always, I am willing to entertain suggestions for how to improve play.

I will be removing Christian and Daren from the automatic e-mails after this post.
