Barrow of the Forgotten King – Turn Results 5

Thurstan channels energy, healing Torvald to full and his wolf by 4. As the wolf is still wounded, the cleric also casts a Cure Light Wounds, restoring it to full. Thurstan and Torvald move the bodies of the sentinels into the mausoleum, arranging them in a dignified manner. Both holy men say a few words over the dead.

Banjo looks around the mausoleum, seeking signs of the arcane but he finds nothing. He even examines the tomb with a Detect Magic. Blunderbuss recovers from his rage. Jean listens to the door but he does not hear anything. Clint examines the door and the lock. He does not find anything out of the ordinary. The elf pockets the keys left hanging from the lock.

Thurstan tries the far door. It is unlocked. Behind it, a narrow staircase descends fifteen feet to a wide landing below. You can tell the landing leads to a wider room that is lit by wavering firelight. The cleric steps aside and allows Torvald and Jean to take the lead as the party descends the stair.

Lit torches illuminate this chamber. From the landing you now stand upon, a shallow staircase leads down into a room obviously designed to allow corpses to be prepared for burial. At the bottom of the staircase is the corpse of a human woman, crumbled and broken. The statue of some winged celestial being overlooks the scene from its pedestal east of the stairs. Several tables stand against the east and west walls, and all but two of the seven have corpses on them. Farther into the chamber is a long pile of crushed stone where somebody or something toppled and crushed two of the tables. Aside from the one table that is beyond the debris, the farthest features you can see are vault doors along the north wall, a couple of which hang open, exposing the rudely tousled bones within.

Torvald steps onto the mausoleum floor to examine the body of the woman. She appears to have been bludgeoned to death. From the description received in town, the body appears to be Desiree Yurling.
