Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 13

Both doors appear to be locked. Recent tracks appear to have been made in the hallway and on the stairs.

What do you do next?

See the combat map for current positions.

See the Beholder Door image above for what appears on the north door. The images in the circles appear to be:

A bent-over man
A sprawled man
A rigid man
A running man
A levetating man
Men shaking hands
A disappearing man struck by a ray
A sleeping man
A man with arms raised
A bleeding man

Please submit your turn instructions using the Player Action Response - Turn Post Template.

I see each beholder eye is some kind of figure, but Im kind of fuzzy on what theyre supposed to represent. Is it possible the figures represent the passages? The lower left figure could be Magic Dies/Fast Men Slow, but the representations are a little sketchy to give a clear meaning for the rest of the passage. Is there a clearer description of the little dudes?

  3. Clint believes that the keys that he found in the upper mausoleum may open the door to the south. If not, he may be able to pick it. He has not tried either yet as he wanted to search the whole area first.

  4. On behalf of Matt:

Clint, thinking out loud says "10 tentacles... 10 crpyts up there in the hall...Hmmm"

Clint tries to pick the lock on the door to the south, while continuing to puzzle out what the poem might mean.

    Rolls for Saving Throws/Skill checks 19, 4, 3, 2, 2 ....WTF!!

    action - examine the door

my thoughts if we try to match words to pics:

bent over man = friends r shy(turning away)
sprawled man = eye of death
rigid man = eye of stone
running man = fast men slow
levetating man = mind(moving wrong way?)
men shaking hands = enemies becoming friends
    disappearing man = oblivion
sleeping man = sleep in rest
man with arms raised = fear
    bleeding man = wound

magic dies, anti-magic area, i dont know, we are
too little to have access to dispell magic if its
    magicaly held.

are any of the pictures buttons, maybe we have to
    press then in order..

what do we know about beholders?

can they freeze, kill, stone, slow, sleep? i don't
remember what they do, but it might match up to
    the 10 eye-stalks. order-wise from poem.

  6. None of the eyes are buttons. Pressing them has no effect.

The door appears to be magically held by a spell. You think it could be opened with a successful Disable Device roll.

To know more about Beholders will require a Monster Lore check which is based off of the appropriate Knowledge skill (not sure which one, I will have to look it up).
