  1. I am guessing we should have Clint wear the gloves until we divvy up the treasure later.

In the mean time I think we should check out the Secret Door. Must hold secrets.

    1. Which one? There is one in the study and one in the library. (There is also the one behind the altar in the adjoining room.)

  2. Once the rest of the gang has decided who carries what bits of loot, he will begin checking out the secret door at B8 ... listen, traps, locks... and then Open once the party is ready...

  3. Everyone ready to proceed? Clint wears the gloves? Who takes the spellbook and the scrolls?

  4. Just thinking out loud here.... can utilize "use magic device" skill to use the scrolls? Would reading spells out of the spellbook work the same way? And yes - gloves on!

    1. I do not believe that you can cast directly from a spellbook like you have been able to in older versions of the game. Otherwise you would be getting much cheaper versions of scrolls. No one has the ability of a prepared arcane caster so the spellbook is only valuable from a money stand point. I think that spellbook = knowledge to cast a spell and scroll = spell already cast but just triggering.

      With UMD you can:

Decipher a Written Spell (DC= 25 + Spell level): This usage works just like deciphering a written spell with the Spellcraft skill, except that the DC is 5 points higher. Deciphering a written spell requires 1 minute of concentration.

Use a Scroll (DC= 20 + Caster level): Normally, to cast a spell from a scroll, you must have the scroll’s spell on your class spell list. Use Magic Device allows you to use a scroll as if you had a particular spell on your class spell list. The DC is equal to 20 + the caster level of the spell you are trying to cast from the scroll. In addition, casting a spell from a scroll requires a minimum score (10 + spell level) in the appropriate ability. If you don’t have a sufficient score in that ability, you must emulate the ability score with a separate Use Magic Device check.

This use of the skill also applies to other spell completion magic items.

We will assume that Banjo has used read magic to decipher the spells already. He does not need to do so again. Anyone else would have to with read magic, spellcraft or UMD.

    2. Technicaly not cheaper, you have to normally pay for spell books too. But there is nothing in the rules for casting from a book, only scrolls.

  5. Banjo will take the arcane scrolls but the spellbook can be carried around by a meatsheild.
