The Sinister Spire - GM Turn Post 86

This small stone chamber mirrors the one you arrived in on this floor of the Spike. An iron spiral staircase leads upward. Two staircases descend from the eastern wall, one attached to the northern wall and the other to the southern. At the top of each stairway is a stone door with a heavy iron bar across it. The space between the two flights forms a passage that ends in the secret door.

  1. "Well gents... here is what I saw in those side rooms [explains gruesome scenes] and these side staircases seem to lead right to ... whatever is tossing the fleshy bits over the side. I've got a good mind to leave those bars alone right now, and head up the spiral stairs. But what do you guys think? And while you're thinking, can anyone make a good guess about how well-used this area is? [someone with tracking/survival skill?]"

Clint is going to check the barred doors for traps/alarms/other locks, if the party feels like peeking in there...also check the spiral stairs for traps no matter what, even if they decide to open a barred door first. Finally, he'd like to ponder his Dungeoneering knowledge, and try to recall what a room/configuration like this might represent?

In order then: Check for tracking signs [assist if someone better tries]
Check door at H19 [traps and locks]
Check door at J19 [traps and locks]
Check spiral stairs [traps and listen]
    Knowledge check

    1. There does not appear to be any traffic in this area. Dust has accumulated on the floors and stairs. The only tracks that you find are ones of your own making.

The doors at the top of the two stair cases do not appear to be trapped. They are not locked but are barred. This seems to be an identical set up to the room at the other end of the secret passage.

Unlike the one leading up to this level, the spiral staircase leading to the next level does not appear to be trapped.

Clint is not sure what the room configuration might represent. The contents certainly have necromantic tones. This is not surprising being that the Spire is the former lair of a powerful necromancer. The secrect passage seems to be a maintenance passage or short-cut between the two spiral stair cases.

  4. Bump. Anything from Matt F or Brad?

What is the part concensious? Up the spiral stairs? Up into the room above the pits? Investigate the pits from the current level?

  5. Up the staircase, it's a little putrid down here.

  6. I vote for the room above the pits. If something is MAKING all that charnel to toss in the pits it should oughta be stopped.

  7. Clint gathers up the party at the bottom of the stairs, and then carefully scouts ahead, climbing as stealthily as he can....checking for traps along the way
