The Sinister Spire - GM Turn Post 128

Dust coats a jumble of equipment and furnishings apparently tossed into this chamber carelessly. Desks, chairs, rusted chains, cauldrons, cracked and shattered glass retorts of enormous size, empty vials of every color, rusted weapons and armor, moldering carpets, and more are visible here.

Deciding that things left in the northern room are best left undisturbed, Clint closed the door and moved to the door to the east. The rogue examined the door and looked for traps. He did not find any. He then proceeded to pick the lock and open the door.

Nothing new registered for Thurstan and Banjo while maintaining their detect magic spells.

The Sinister Spire - GM Turn Post 127

A narrow shaft pierces the floor. It’s just wide enough to sit atop without falling in, and the whole room reeks of foulness issuing from it.

Clint opened the northern door. It opened into a narrow room.

Nothing new registered for Thurstan and Banjo while maintaining their detect magic spells. Dargoth, Kirlic and Mr. Wolfe waited expectantly and a bit nervously.

The Sinister Spire – Turn Results 125

Hearing that the party is planning to move on, Kirlic descended the rope and joined the party below.

Clint cautiously entered the room and searched the floor, doors and statues for traps and locks. No traps were found. The door to the east is locked. A foul smell comes from beyond the door to the north. From beyond the door to the west, light is seen occasionally from under the door followed by the sound of arcing electricity.

Dargoth stepped into the room behind Clint and examined the statue in the northwest corner. The fighter initially thought that the statue represented a Naga but changed his mind after a closer inspection. The figure depicted had move humanoid features rather than the alien features associated with an aberration.

Thurstan and Banjo maintained their Detect Magic spells but nothing new registered within their sight.

The Sinister Spire - GM Turn Post 125

Four statues are artfully posed in this chamber, each standing in one of the corners. Every wall has a door in its center. To the east of the southern doorway is an armored humanoid that has a viper’s head, and to its west is a male human with snakes for arms. To the east of the northern door is a willowy female with upturned eyes and a sneering mouth full of pointed teeth. On the doorway’s western side is a female creature that has a snake tail instead of human legs. The western door is intermittently outlined with brilliant green light, each time accompanied by a sound like the discharge of electricity.

The Sinister Spire – Turn Results 124

Upon hearing the description of the statues relayed up the shaft, Banjo climbs down to get a better look.

The detect magic spell that Thurstan maintained and the identify spell cast b Banjo do not reveal anything further. There are not magic auras present in the hallway or the room beyond. No magical aura on the statues is consistent with the working theory that they are magically transmuted beings. Regardless, parts of each statue appear to be made of flesh and still move. This is not consistent with a typical transformation.

Being careful not to touch anything and searching for traps, Clint slowly moved forward to examine the room beyond.

Kirlic remained at the top of the shaft guarding the rope and escape route.

The Sinister Spire - GM Turn Post 124

The first statue to the left (B8) is of a female drow with hands out and palms upward. The hands are clearly flesh.

The first statue to the right (D8) is of an angelic being preparing to take flight. Its wings are still soft and covered in white feathers.

The middle left statue (B6) is of a male duergar with hammer raised. Its eyes appear to be alive and they squirm wildly within the stone sockets.

The middle right statue (D6) is of two drow children point upward with expressions of awe. Their pointing finger still wriggle.

The last statue on the left (B4) is of a male drow crouched low like a hound. His ears and nose are still flesh.

The last statue on the right (D4) is of a female drow balanced on one foot. Her mouth is still flesh and it is from here that the trill issues from.

The corridor widens ahead into a 15 x 15 room with a door in the center of each of the three remaining walls. A statue sit in each corner. Full datails will not be available until the room has been entered.

The Sinister Spire – Turn Results 123

Dargoth grabbed the rope and mounted the stairs preparing to join Clint below. The fighter felt a momentary wave of nausea as he headed downward but the sensation quickly passed. Both Banjo and Thurstan detected the flare of a magic aura when this occurred.

After a few steps by the heavily armored fighter, the remnants of the stairs gave way. Dargoth maintained his grip on the rope as the wreck of metal fell out from under him. Clint stepped forward to get a better look at the statues while waiting for Dargoth. It was lucky for the rogue as the space he just occupied was filled with more wreckage.

After the dust settles from the noisy excitement, Dargoth climbed down to join Clint. Thurstan pulled up the rope and fashioned a harness for Mr. Wolfe and lowered his companion down the shaft. The cleric climbed down after and cast detect magic when on safe footing.

Banjo remained at the top concentrating on his detect magic spell and Kirlic stood nearby with his bow at the ready.

Clint moved forward examining the statues and searching for the source of the keening sound.

The Sinister Spire - GM Turn Post 123

The remains of the iron spiral staircase from the shaft above cover the floor in this short hall. Just beyond, sconces mounted on the wall contain flickering green lights that throw unsettling illumination down this hallway. Alcove on each side of the passage hold stone sculptures. A thin cry trills consistently from somewhere within one of the northern alcoves.

All the statues are more or less man-sized. Someone will need to move closer to get a better description. At the north end, the passageway appears to open up into a room.

Kirlic fastened a rope to the door and handed the other end to Clint. The rogue descended the stairs again and navigated the remaining shaft using the rope.

Clint stepped upon the stairs and started his descent. The rogue felt a momentary wave of nausea as he headed downward but the sensation quickly passed. Both Banjo and Thurstan detected the flare of a magic aura when this occurred.

The elf only went about 10 feet before it became apparent that the lower portion of the stair case was missing, collapsed into the lower portion of the shaft 30 feet below.
