Map Key:
Gray is the Oceanbridge. It protrudes 2 feet above the surface of the water. The surface is a bit slippery. A DC 2 acrobatics check is required to run or charge.
Blue borders represent blocks.
Lt. Blue is water. The water is approximately 5 feet deep near the Oceanbridge but quickly deepens further from the bridge.
Brown is cavern floor. To reach the cavern floor from the Oceanbridge it is a 10 foot climb up slipper cliffs. It is a DC20 climb check.
Do you still need us to post in format? Our plan is to carry our mind-controlled companions down the land-side and far, far away.
ReplyDeleteYou are currently not in initiative.
ReplyDeleteI do need to know what you are planning. Tie up your friends? Cast spells? Search the area? Swim after the Aboleth? Smack your junk with a hammer?
Well Pawl's not here, so junk-smacking is out.
ReplyDeleteIf they keep jabbering about how they have to dive into the water we'll tie them up, then haul them down the land side until they shut up.
Spellcraft roll to determine the range and duration?
18,10, 2, 15, 3, 8
I hear, and I obey.
ReplyDeleteI'll tie up, or help restrain people as needed. I think a hasty escape from the bridge is a great idea before we all get in the mood to go swimming.
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose we see any behavior from Thurstan or Dargoth that suggests there's an opportunity to communicate with the thing controlling them, or the person being controlled?
K: "What I'd really like to do is talk to Dargoth. Dargoth? It's Kirlic."
D: "THERE IS NO DARGOTH, ONLY ABOLETH."
I concur, restrain and retreat towards our destination... I have no idea how we would all go down into the murk after that thing otherwise. I do like Kirlic's idea about the communicating, and I hope to hear good news from Banjo's spellcraft roll(s)....
ReplyDeleteMy Rolls as needed:
7,18,7,11,19
that's "Obey-olyth" to you all.
ReplyDeleteDargoth and Thurstan continue to stuggle to escape their bonds and attend the Aboleth.
ReplyDeleteKirlic has no luck communicating with the controller through talking with Dargoth and Thurstan.
Banjo knows enough about these type of spells to know that they are bad mojo. He believes the effect to be a Dominate effect. The range to initially start the spell is limited but once a subject is in the thrall, the range is virtually unlimited and telepathic. The duration is days. New saves are only prompted if the subject is asked to do something against their nature. Obvious self destructive orders are not carried out. The caster must renew the dominate daily or it will lapse.
Until a magical means can be devised to break the control it might be possible to convince Dargoth and Thurstan that following the Aboleth is self destructive. Failing that, restraints seem to be a prudent course.
Any other actions in the immediate area or are you off to Pedistal?
ReplyDeletecan thurstan cast displell magic on himself or dargoth, or have I been commanded not to?
ReplyDeleteThurstan has not been told not to cast spells. It remains to be seen if your companions will allow him that level of freedom.
ReplyDeleteHe was given a "come to me" command. At the moment he does not know where that means exactly. He does not have a sense of the Aboleth's current location. Before he could see it but now it has disappeared.
Duration of DAYS! By the perky tits of Iomedae, that sucks my ass!
ReplyDeleteWell I see no alternative but this:
Since there is no *immediate* threat of our companions flinging themselves into the slimy embrace of a mindfucking monster from beyond space and time, we should haul them to Pedistal and untie them. We can then buy a scroll of Protection from Evil (which will only temporarily break the mind control) and have Thurstan try Dispel Magic.
This is assuming we are given free reign to try such activities, and arent plot-hooked as soon as we set foot inside the gates.
Yep. 1 day per caster level. If the moster loses interest or forgets to renew, the spell will be released.
ReplyDeleteIf you reason with Thustan and Dargoth they could be made to see that it would be foolish and hazardous to their own health to try to find the Aboleth without knowing where it is or having the proper equipment. With a successful Diplomacy or Bluff check you could convince them that heading to town is their best bet for finding a way to find and get to the creature. "I am sure someone in town knows where the creature lives." or "Maybe they have water breathing potions for sale." They would continue to try to fulfill the compulsion but from a different angle.
or keep us tied up and go some place and wait out the week.
ReplyDeleteIf I get a final decision, I can post a turn this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI dont relish the thought of keeping our companions under constant guard for a week.
ReplyDeleteI will Diplomacy them. Any assistance from the non-mindcontrolled party members is welcome.
Good enough for me.
ReplyDeleteI will assist my diplomatic musically named friend...
