Barrow of the Forgotten King - GM Turn Post 100

A search of the room reveals the following items of potential value:

4 potions (magic)
1 masterwork chainshirt
2 masterwork studded leather armor
3 masterwork scimitars
1 composite shortbow fitted for +3 damage bonus (magic)
2 shortbows
45 arrows
6 silvered arrows
Gold necklace (100 GP)
92 GP
1 backpack (magic)

What do you do next?

(Before the group moves on, this would also be a good time to introduce Brad’s character. Assume that he has entered the area from behind the characters coming from the same way they have. Brad, send me a copy so that I can update the summary sheet.)

  2. Respond to Turn 100

I would like to carry one of the masterwork scimitars

I would like to carry the composite Shortbow fitted for +3 damage bonus (magic) since Clint would not be strong enough to draw the bow. (After it is checked to make sure it is not cursed)

I can still carry about 100 pounds and still be lightly encumbrance.

Also watch down the corridor to make sure that nothing heard the battle and is headed back to us.

I am thinking we should collect the Caltrops to drop them when we rest.

  4. A very tall albino elf steps out from the hallway behind the party. He wears a thick composite bow across his back, and an elven blade at his side. He is unusually large for an elf, and you have to believe that his lineage is not completely elven.

"Nicely done, I'm sorry I'm just moments too late to help; I came as quickly as I could."

He surveys the room for a moment and continues. "My name is Kirlic Valenwood. I was in Kingsholm purchasing supplies for my travels when a paladin and a wounded companion spoke to me. I could not turn down his request to come find you."

"I bring a letter from Torvald, and humbly offer my assistance to the group." Kirlic pulls a sealed sheet of paper from his pack and offers it.

  5. "Ow" says Clint, rubbing his foot and the rapidly closing wound left by the caltrops... "I hate those things." He moves to examine the finely crafted very strong shortbow... "Thats a mighty fine piece Dargoth... I see I can't quite pull it comfortably yet, but I've been working out alot and when I can, perhaps we can talk about making a deal for it?"

Clint takes special care to examine the area to the west for further trappage...Moves to D4 and listens/looks ahead once the party is ready to advance with him.

  6. Banjo, an obvious Chelaxian, looks up from the magic items he and Leera are about to identify and takes the letter from Torvald. "Hiya Spooky. How was ol' Torvald, anyway?"

Banjo knew Torvald before the game started. They are both Chelaxian and both decided to leave because of the political climate. If there is something fishy about the letter, Banjo should know.

  7. Thurstan is able to identify two of the potions. One is Bull's Strength and the other is Cure Moderate Wounds. He failed on his other rolls.

The backpack is obviously magic as it only weighs 5 pounds and holds much more that a normal backpack should. Within you find a bale of straw, 4 bags of caltrops, dried meat (enough for 12 meals) and 4 full waterskins.

If you collect up the scattered caltrops, you will have another 4 bags worth. Each bag is enough to fill a 5-foot square.

The stairs descend 10 feet into darkness. The waterfall appears to descend on the left past the stairs and a large cavernous pit opens to the right. The roar of the waterfall makes it hard to hear anything. The water appears to fall some distance. The opening where the water descends is large enough for a medium creature to fit.

    No traps are apparent.

  8. The letter is legitimate. Torvald appears to have sent you reinforcements in the form of Kirlic.

Everyone has posted but I have not had any clear direction on what you want to do next.

The treasure should be divided. At the very least I need to know who is carrying the loot.

I will need rolls from Banjo to attempt to identify the remaining items.

I will need a new marching order that includes Kirlic.

Are you pressing on or are there plans to rest?

  9. Kirlic Valenwood - ooc: Ranger? Or 1/2 Elf Fighter?

Ask Clint to scout ahead like D4 ish. Then proceed down the path.

Me, Kirlic, Clint, Sorcerer, Thurstan, leera is my guess.

  10. ooc: Kirlic is an elven ranger with a focus on archery. He doesn't need to stay ranged though, he's comfortable in melee also. He's happy to take a forward position.

  11. Uh, we should rest here... using the caltrops as MF suggested. I am still wounded and low on spells. Plus, getting Dargoth that point of Con back would be a good thing.

    Rolls to ID magic items:

    26,22,8,23,21

  12. The remaining two potions are Cure Moderate Wounds. The backpack is a Handy Haversack. The bow remains unidentified.

  13. Resting does pose some risks as well.

You may not remember as this was posted back in May, but here are a few things to keep in mind:

    * Banjo tells Thurstan that Dargoth has likely contracted Demon Fever. (The party has no means to heal him currently.)
    * Dargoth will need to make two Fort saves at the end of the day (next time the party rests).

You are not sure what the disease will do but you are sure it will not be pleasant.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I dont suppose Kirlic or Leera have any Remove Disease magic? If not I guess we can go on.

How many spells do I have left?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I do not have the ability to cure diseases. I do have anti-toxin, but if you're sure it's a disease, I'd recommend not drinking it. It tastes like battery acid and strawberries.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Then I propose that Dargoth drink it anyway, so we can see the look on his face.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Leera identifies the bow as a +1 composite shortbow fitted to a +3 Str bonus. (Anyone that wants to use it but does not have the required Str would take a -2 penalty to use. With the +1 that would be a net -1)

Antitoxin will not work for a disease. A generic bonus to Fort save from a spell might help. A successful Heal skill check can also provide a +4 bonus to the Fort save.

Does the party rest now or do you press on?

Any movement on picking and dividing treasure?

Is everyone good with the proposed marching order?

I will post the next turn once I have answers to my questions.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If no one else can use the bow, I can make use of it. As far as marching order, I'm here to help, and am happy to take any position requested of me.

If the group would like to take the time, I can try my hand at the disease, and see if I'm carrying something else that might help. (my roll for heal if we decide to do so, was 11+6= 17)

ooc: (I recognize that I did nothing to help earn the bow, and am not asking to keep it, it'll just make me a little more effective.. I currently carry a masterwork +3 str bow, so the bonus will be a small change)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Heal Check (+0 Skill + 2 Wisdom (I think I get to add Wisdom)) = [20] + 2 = 22.

Fort (+6 from Character sheet added in dice roller above) = [26] [25]

If I can squeeze another +1 from Bards song or Luck or Guidance let me know.

    Other Random Rolls (+0): [9] [7] [3] [11] [7] [3] [9] [13] [6] [6]

I think my luck ran out.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Then we better go on and get a Remove Disease in town.

Uh... there IS someone high enough level to cast Remove Disease in town, right?
